Depending on where in the world you are, sometimes, APO/FPO shipments experience unavoidable delays, escpecially when being routed to any combat areas. The following information about turnaround and delivery times was found here, at the official APO website http://www.apobox.com/turnaround.php:
APO Box™ has multiple FedEX, UPS, DHL and USPS pickups and drop offs daily. Our modern warehouse automation allows us to process your package fast. As soon as your package arrives at our warehouse it is scanned into our system. It gets sorted and processed. Once your package is reviewed for any custom requests, we print USPS postage and customs. With multiple USPS pickups a day most packages depart our warehouse same day.
USPS Shipping Times
Once your package departs our warehouse the US Postal Service (USPS) and the Military Postal service Agency (MPSA) is responsible for delivering your package to your APO/FPO address.Priority mail is shipped via air to APO/FPO addresses and normally take around 10-15 days to most locations. If you are lucky to live next to the major military air hub for your region (Frankfurt, Baghdad, Kabul, Azores), then you often receive packages faster. Some customers have received their package in less than 7 days! For those in remote outstations, it can take over 30 days to reach you.
APO Box Direct mail is sent via air to all APO/FPO AE locations except England, Germany and Italy which are sent via surface mail. Air mail normally take around 10-15 days to most locations. Surface mail normally takes 14-30 days. APO Box Direct is a tremendous cost savings offered to our customers. APO Box Direct has flat rate costs which include insurance and handling and USPS postage. APO Box Direct is sent via Parcel Select and is available to our customers due to the volume of packages we send.
The larger your package, the longer it tends to take getting on and off the space available aircraft. There is normally room for a stack of smaller light weight boxes on each military cargo aircraft, so they tend to get there even quicker.Some times packages ordered on the same day show up several weeks apart at the APO/FPO post office. This is because of the “luck of the draw” on what planes were flying to your location and what the military postal clerk grabbed on the runway to load.
We are so confident in our package turnout times, we show them to you live. We calculate the daily turnaround time from averaging each package time in and time palletized for USPS pickup. USPS has multiple pickups at our warehouse Monday - Friday (Excluding government holidays). Package averaging includes all package time in and out except for credit card failures, rebilling, and custom repacking.
During November and December each year the USPS and MPSA is flooded with packages. This causes a great delay in the average time the MPSA takes to deliver its packages. The MPSA does its best to get all packages as fast as it can to your APO/FPO location sometimes up to 60 days for surface shipments. APO Box has no control over how fast the USPS/MSPA ships your packages once it departs our warehouse. Ship Early!
